The IoT, every device around us that is connected to the internet, collecting and sharing data. This includes "smart homes" and "connected homes", these can make our home life so much easier and way more convenient. IoT devices may also be found outside the home, for example a pet camera, a medical device implanted into the body, like a pacemaker.

Let's take a look at google home and other smart home devices, your smart bathroom scale works with your treadmill to make sure you reach the goal you want, which then gives us ideas on our laptop or smartphones for healthy food recipes or food delivery. Our security devices which are monitoring our home turn the light on and off as soon as we enter and exit rooms. Google home can turn our TV on and off, put the program we're after and even order fresh food to be delivered to our door. This is all convenient and it's making our lives so much easier. So what's the issue?
All this is good, but let's not forget that this can open the door to cybercriminals, which are constantly after our bank details, credit card information, our details and many more. Strong security is crucial, but these IoT devices cannot guarantee privacy of our information when they collect all of our data and store it.
Was Wall-e right all along? People have become so caught up with technology, with the invention of a car which doesn't need a driver, a house which can turn the light on and off, where we no longer need to get off the couch to find the tv remote. Are we being controlled by our technology or have we just become so dependent that we no longer bother doing things ourselves.
We no longer have conversations with people over the phone, we only know how to text and message, we don't go out to eat and socialise, we order in and get it delivered. Technology and the IoT are beneficial in many ways, but I believe it's going to ruin and effect humans in a way they can't imagine. What will happen to our jobs, our relationships and our health when we no longer depend on ourself but all this technology around us which has made us lazy and reliant.
What do you think about smart homes? Do you believe technology is rapidly changing for the better or for worse?

I agree with you 100%, we're all guilty for being on our phones too much. I think the issue is how dependent we've become in technology, for example no one can do maths in their head because we've become so dependent on calculators.. i'm so guilty of that because sometimes I have to double check what 3x8 is on my calculator because I might be wrong.. it's so bad.
Hopefully it doesn't get to the Wall-E point, although after seeing how much I use my phone per day (particularly Instagram) I think I'm just as bad! I think too much smart technology is probably not a good thing. Smart homes might make things better but at the same time there comes a point when you reach overkill and I think that if we have too many devices to do things for use we will become really lazy.

Yeah absolutely, It's really cool how this technology is helping us in our every day lives. I do believe every time they bring out a new product, it's to make our life easier, or to benefit us in some way. Let's hope it heads in the direction of helping us rather than effecting us negatively.
Hey Vanessa, great post! The smart home is definitely helping us all the time as it's very convenient! I can just use my phone to switch on my speaker from my bed room while my speaker is located in living room. Also, I think the reason of technology rapidly changing is because they wanted to make it become even more better. So, I believe it will goes better.
