Do you know that you can download all the stored data from your Facebook account? Mine was around 4G. Yep, since 2012, that's how much data they've stored about me, from messages, to likes and location. Do you want to know how much data is collected about you? Cnbc tells you how to do so, and the results will shock you just like it did me.
Although there are some Internet privacy laws, We're not protected from our data being collected by these huge companies and sold to other companies for their own personal gain.
I'm sure many of you are aware of Facebook being sued for privacy breach, they exposed private information of more than 300,000 Australians and 87 million Facebook users worldwide, yet despite all of this we still continue to use these platforms. Why is that so?
When we're able to use an app for free, there's a price to pay, and that can include your privacy and personal information.
Although Facebook was caught out, there are many other companies doing this exact same thing but the only difference is, they've just gotten away with it.
You'd be shocked to know how many companies are breaching data laws. Here are the 15 biggest data breaches of the 21st century
A few others as well...
Are you a consumer for one of those companies who've breached data privacy? As a consumer, how do you feel about your data being collected? What about your data privacy being breached and sold for their own personal gain?
@s3540640 Yeah, it's so strange.. but if you want to play on a certain site, you HAVE to sign up and thats the issue, same as signing up to use all these different social media platform, you don't really have an option in this situation!
I was not aware about the other companies you listed that have breached our privacy for their gain. As a marketing student I completely understand the value of those details but from an average consumers point of view it’s just so unethical, why should I give my information for free if it does not personally benefit me..
@hluuu
I would've been absolutely terrified! I only give my details to companies I know, like in store, but a website I've never seen and especially advertised on Facebook, it's a no from me.. I always have to google a website before I go on it or purchase anything.. Facebook needs to be held liable for advertising fake companies, who promise something and don't deliver or the product is completely different. The internet is so dangerous.
@s3661099
Exactly right, I was so shocked that Playstation was hacked.. like why?.. It's very scary because you don't know why they're stealing the data they are and it's a worry.
It's so shocking to see how much of our data is being exploited! My friends actually linked me to a Click Frenzy website for tonight for deals such as $12 phones and $4 AirPods and it was advertised everywhere on Facebook pages and even the TV! To have a 30 minute earlier access, you need to sign up by filling in your details. I immediately signed up and minutes later I looked up Google to see what the reviews were.
Of course, it was only rated 1 star on ProductReview and many customers who also got sucked in said that the prices are falsely advertised and those who win their prizes don't actually receive anything! If it is too good…
